The Holt County Ranch Rodeo will consist of four events to be announced at event. Teams will consist of four contestants. Entry fee will be $40.00 per person or $160.00 per team payable before start of the Rodeo. Checks made out to Holt County Fair or cash paid at Northwest corner of the arena. Payout is based on the number of teams and Calcutta.
General Rules
All times will begin when the first cowboy crosses the line going into the herd.
- The line judge will drop the starting flag.
- 20 sec. Penalty for pausing at line.
- 20 sec. Penalty for more than 1 rider across the line at a time.
All ropes must be removed and not touching animal in any way before the final flag.
- Cowboys must also not be touching animal in any way.
- All Cattle will be drawn for
- All cowboys can carry and use only one rope. No passing ropes.
Penning, no ropes can touch cattle
Animal abuse will result in disqualification or 20 sec. Penalty, judge’s discretion
If roper un-dallies, he can get off horse to help other cowboys.
- If there is an illegal rope catch the cowboy must then drop that rope
- Any rope attached to an animal with the other end loose is considered a dead rope and cannot be used
Should rope fall free of animal, can again be used
Entire animal must be across the line before penalty is called
Actual working time for all events will be 3 minutes
- Except Calf Branding will be 2 minute time limit
- All teams not getting the final flag for completion of the event will automatically receive the full time, plus penalties.
- Legal rope catches – 2 horns legally, half a head, full neck catch and one or two heels
Total Time and Disqualification Penalties
Intentional tripping or hurting the animals
Working wrong animal until final flag
Not dropping rope if front leg or illegal catch is made
- As soon as cowboy notices or judge notices illegal catch
- If cowboy gets off horse while dallied
Full time for any animal roped behind the penalty line
- Horse can be behind the line, but animal must be completely across the line
- If ropes are spent, full time for the event results
- Three ropes spent in pasture doctoring results in full time
Minor Time Penalties
- 20 sec. Penalty each time correctly drawn animal re-crosses starting line reentering herd
- 5 sec. Penalty for each extra animal across starting line
- - 20 sec. Penalty for galloping in the herd or dragging calf out on a gallop
Other Event Penalties
Calf Branding
- Calf must be stopped as soon as it clears penalty line
- Wrestlers cannot touch ropes until calf crosses starting line, if do, 20 sec. Penalty
- Judge will blow whistle when rope is off and calf is in working position to start brander
- If brander leaves circle before whistle 20 sec. Penalty
- If calf escapes pen, 20 sec. Penalty and calf is fair game to all ropers, catch as catch can
- If purposely run calf out of pen disqualified
Pasture Doctoring
- 20 sec. Penalty touching ropes before whistle
Double Mugging
- Animal can’t be tripped, either horseback or on foot with ropes, must be day lighted
- Tie 3 legs, time ends animal tied, extra ropes are off, and cowboys are clear Stay tied 6 sec.
When you dismount from your horse, throw your rope on the ground.
